Benji & Jillian kicked off the 2014 Labor Day weekend by getting married! This La Jolla Cove Bridge Club wedding was super chill…although, as you’ll see in the video below, the groom was feeling the irony since he was the one who hand-crafted all of their gorgeous lawn games seen in the above photos. This no-dancing reception got started with a light-hearted ceremony just feet from the La Jolla boardwalk and shoreline. The bride requested Vivaldi and Handel for the prelude, which was a treat as I so rarely get to play classical music any more these days.
A LITTLE SPECIAL SAUCE @ THIS LA JOLLA COVE BRIDGE CLUB WEDDING
The La Jolla Cove Bridge Club provided the perfect backdrop for this group (lots of lawn and not much space for a dance floor). The song of the day was definitely “Beautiful Day” by U2 as it was the song choice for both the recessional and newlywed’s grand entrance. The surprise of the day? The groom contacted several of his & Jillian’s favorite podcasts & asked them to send him a personal congratulatory message on MP3. The messages were then given to me. I played one during the Grand Entrance and one as if it were a pre-recorded toast from a friend who could not be present at the wedding. Check out the video here to see how they played out!
NO DANCE RECEPTION
After the grand entrance, First Dance (done to the song from Jillian’s parents’ First Dance), toasts, dinner, and the Shoe Game, everyone was invited to grab a slice of cake, refill their glass, try their hand at the lawn games, and enjoy the beautiful Saturday afternoon. No dance floor? No problem! Very few (if any) guests left early due to great planning on everyone’s part. And, despite not being allowed to play amplified music outside, I did sneak my portable PA over to the edge of the door and set the mood for chilling. The bride wanted to hear Bob Dylan, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, CCR, Neil Young, Janis Joplin, The Band, Three Dog Night, Allman Brothers mixed with a few newer tracks (Adele, Maroon 5, Blondie, Bon Jovi).
