Of all the San Diego wedding DJs in the county, Michelle & Matt chose me to DJ and MC their Oceanview Room wedding on October 30, 2015. This vintage/roaring 20s-inspired, Great Gatsby wedding was lavish, detailed, and elegant.
THE LOVE STORY
Michelle & Matt’s love story began in 2011 with a date to the Ocean Prime restaurant. The next day, Matt leaned down while ordering a few drinks at the Pacific Shores bar and surprised Michelle with their first kiss…and I hear it was a GOOD ONE!!! They enjoy rescuing and raising Pugs & traveling–especially touring breweries & wineries.
Then, on July 21, 2015, Matt & Michelle were touring a glacier in Juneau, Alaska. Matt asked the helicopter pilot to take a picture of them with the chopper in the background…at the moment the pilot was about to snap the shot, as Michelle describes it, “in grand Matt fashion,” he got down on one knee & pulled out an engagement ring!
THE CEREMONY
Matt & Michelle had no wedding party at their ceremony, but the crew of swordsmen entered to Train’s “Marry Me.” The bride, escorted by her mother, entered to Michael Buble’s version of “Feeling Good.”
Here is an excerpt from Matt & Michelle’s custom ceremony based on their love for their Pugs:
“Perhaps the greatest indicator of all for their readiness as a couple for marriage is that they are not just ‘dog people,’ but they are ‘Pug people.’ The very first word Wikipedia uses to describe a pug’s temperament is ‘strong-willed.’ And that is what it takes to survive the ups and downs. I think having a little wrinkled up nose that is so cute it can diffuse any tension is also helpful! In all seriousness though, Robert Wagner said, ‘A dog will teach you unconditional love.’ What could be better when embarking on the journey of marriage together?”
From the end of the ceremony:
“Yes, a ring is a symbol to the world that you are off the market. But it can also be an inspiration, a reminder of the vows you have spoken here today. In many ways, it’s like a collar to a dog—you could get lost without it. A collar might also help prevent a dog from running off where he doesn’t belong. And some collars can be nice and blingy showing the world just how loved the dog is. All in all, let these rings inspire you to be each to be ‘man—and wife’s—best friends.’”
After being pronounced husband and wife, they exited to Calvin Harris’ “Feels So Close.”
THE OCEANVIEW ROOM WEDDING RECEPTION
The newlywed’s officially entered their reception to the James Bond theme song. Their First Dance was to the Maroon 5 version of “The Way You Look Tonight.” Without any of the traditional formalities, the only other thing on the agenda beside drinking and dancing was playing Dave Matthews’ “Crush” for the last dance.
THE PLAYLIST
For the cocktail hour and dinner, the bride and groom requested Big Band and old Jazz, which, of course, fit with the theme of their Great Gatsby wedding…and I was sure to sneak in Fergie’s “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” from the most recent Great Gatsby movie.
Again, I was honored to be the one and only San Diego wedding DJ Matt & Michelle trusted with their Oceanview Room wedding. Thank you! See more at #mattandmichelle2015 or the video here.
