The Parker Palm Springs Wedding 1

On Sunday, May 18th, I had the pleasure of DJing Tiffany & Michael’s wedding at The Parker in Palm Springs, one of the most amazing inland venues in southern California. A wedding at The Parker is a hard one to top!

Tiffany & Michael met in Mexico about 8 years ago & finally tied the knot on Sunday, with many guests on the groom’s side flying out from Canada. The wedding was an intimate affair with just 40 guests.

THE CEREMONY

In a chin-dropping backless gown, the bride walked down the aisle with her dog to “Sea of Love” by Cat Power. Rarrrr!!!! Showing her eye for style (and maybe one of the reasons she hired a wedding entertainment company that named all of their packages after “Sex & The City” characters/themes), she quoted the last episode from Season 6 of “Sex & The City” to the groom in her vows.

The un-trained eye also may not have noticed that the wedding’s theme, “Eat. Drink. Be Married” also appeared in Season 3, Episode 12 (Trey’s toast at his & Charlotte’s engagement party)! All in the spirit of the Manhattan four-some, we couldn’t help but notice that the groom, a model, was quite a handsome fella!

The happy couple walked back down the aisle (without their dogs this time) to “All You Need is Love” by the Beatles then headed over to the ballroom lawn for cocktail hour + dinner. Big Band was the choice for the cocktail hour (very traditional), but the 2 1/2 hour dinner featured music from “Hotel Costes.” Hotel Costes is place very much like The Parker in Paris. To date, their resident DJ, Stéphane Pompougnac, has compiled 15 electro-funky lounge music albums…..music from these compilations was the soundtrack as the 40 guests ate dinner together at one very long table. CANADIAN TRADITION @ THIS WEDDING AT THE PARKER

Tiffany & Michael’s wedding at The Parker included a bit of Canada along with their touch of Mexico! In the Canadian tradition, Guest MC Jeevan kept the round robin of toasts going throughout the meal and concluded by announcing the Parent Dances & First Dances. The Mother-Son song was, I believe, the groom’s parent’s wedding song: “Hawaiian Wedding Song” by Elvis. The bride danced with her grandpa to Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me,” with her uncle to the Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses,” with her other uncle to Queen’s “I Want to Break Free,” and with her brother to Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely.” Then the First Dance was “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra.

DANCING

The bride requested that the first two open dancing songs be Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” then Frank Sinatra’s “The Best is Yet to Come.” My instructions were then to climb from the 60s to now, playing a few songs from each decade until we reached EDM in 5th gear! The bride and groom’s special must-have song was “Too Young” by Phoenix. While typically Sunday weddings tend to finish early, this crowd went into over-time…not even wanting to call it quits at 1:00 am on Monday morning! The last song of the…morning? Daft Punk’s “One More Time.”
