Of all the bilingual San Diego wedding DJs in Mission Bay, Alexis & Adam chose me to DJ and MC their intercultural Mexican-Jewish wedding in the Marina Village Bayview Room on Saturday, June 17, 2017.
THE LOVE STORY
Adam & Alexis met on May 10, 2014 via OKCupid. Alexis was attracted to Adam’s page because he mentioned that he knew how to flip an egg without using a spatula. Adam was attracted to Alexis’ page because of her beautiful smile and tight, curly hair. She also mentioned that she drinks beer, and Adam though that was pretty cool for such a pretty gal. He also thought it was pretty cool that Alexis made him wait for the 3rd date before he got a kiss!
A&A had just spent time with some friends discussing how long is an appropriate length of time to wait before saying “I love you.” Another couple had said it after just four months and everyone thought that was an incredibly short period of time. Adam & Alexis had been together about four months at that time, and when they returned to their apartment, the conversation continued and they told each other they loved each other right then & there…ahhhh!
On January 23, 2016, they were planning to go skiing. Adam drove north far longer than he should have, arriving at the Palace of the Arts in San Francisco, which is Alexis’ favorite spot in the bay area. Before Alexis knew it, they were walking around the park and Adam was down on one knee. Alexis said yes before he even finished the question.
Together, Adam & Alexis love (and hate) running and hiking…also watching movies together with popcorn and hot sauce and cooking together.
THE MARINA VILLAGE BAYVIEW ROOM RECEPTION
Alexis & Adam’s ceremony took place off-site (not in the Marina Village Bayview Room). After a 90 minute Cocktail “Hour,” we then waited another hour for the caterer to be ready to serve dinner 🙁 The crowd was getting ansy. When they started dancing to dinner music, I knew we were in for a great night! This crowd went hard for 4 straight hours of dancing. A good portion of the guests were up from Tijuana…you’ll see how they reacted when I played “La Chona” by Los Tucanes de Tijuana!!!! It was really important for Adam & Alexis that they have a ragin, semi “all night” dance party….so they opted to throw the bouquet, remove & toss the garter, & do the Horah to regular dance music…without stopping “the mood.” See the results in the video below.
THE PLAYLIST
For the cocktail hour/dinner playlist at this Marina Village Bayview Room wedding, the bride and groom requested “soft variety of English and Spanish music” including: Luis Miguel, Michael Bublé, Frankie Vallie, and Frank Sinatra. Their instructions for dancing?
“We prefer to have a ‘fun’ and easily ‘danceable’ reception. If you feel like you are in a Tijuana dance club, then you are getting the right vibe. They play English music because it is popular, but there is a lot of Spanish as well. We are not too worried about language. If it moves from PG-13 to R-rated quickly, it wont be a problem.”
Sounds like a recipe for a TJ-style fiesta to me!!!! Their must-play list included:
- Suavamente by Elvis Crespo
- Despacito by Luis Fonsi (not the Justin Beiber version)
- Baila Esta Cumbia by Selena
- La Gozadera by Gente De Zona
- El Taxi by Pitbull (Spanish version)
- Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars
- El Liston De Tu Pelo by Angeles Azules
- Crazy In Love by Beyonce
- Perdoname by Deorro
- Cupid Shuffle by Cupid
- Cha Cha Slide by DJ Casper
- Shaky Shaky by Daddy Yankee
Again, I was honored to be the one and only bilingual San Diego wedding DJ Alexis and Adam trusted with their big day. Thank you! See more at #AlexisAdam2017.
