Of all the bilingual San Diego wedding DJs around in the 619, Judith & Hector chose me to DJ and MC their intercultural, bilingual, salsa-dancing, backyard wedding on Saturday, April 22, 2017.
THE LOVE STORY
Would you believe that Hector, from El Salvador, and Judith, chatting up her parents all night in fluent French, met while salsa dancing? Dancing truly is the “international” language of love! And it wasn’t hard to see where either Judith or Hector got their moves from because Judith’s parents were killing it with their swing dancing and Hector’s entire family was groovin’ the night away.
Fun tidbit: their song is the unedited version of Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” (lyrics: “You the f*ckin’ best [x4] / You the best I ever had / Best I ever had [x3] / I say you the f*ckin’…”), but they opted for Louis Armstrong’s “La Vie En Rose” for their First Dance instead LOL. You can, however, see them dance and serenade each other to their “real” song later in the reception (see the video below).
THE CEREMONY
Hector & Judith got married off-site at a church with family in attendance (some of whom flew in from El Salvador for this San Diego wedding).
THE SAN DIEGO WEDDING RECEPTION
Can you all say “casual”? The party started rolling about an hour late. But no worries because the gourmet brie, gouda, and smoked salmon were flowing like the wine people were enjoying. (They let me take 2 blocks of cheese AND a hunk of blue cheese brie home…and I got to relive with study abroad in Paris from Sophomore year!!!!) After a short and sweet Grand Entrance and a welcome from the bride and groom, everyone enjoyed the taco bar. Then there were a few toasts, Judith danced with her dad, the First Dance, a group photo on the dance floor, and BAILANDO!
THE PLAYLIST
Sadly, I couldn’t take credit for all the compliments I received for the music for Cocktails and Dinner…it was Judith’s playlist 100%, and it rocked. For dancing, the newlyweds requested Top 40, salsa, cumbias, mambo, 80s pop, bachata, and merengue. We had to lower the volume due to the noise curfew at 10:00 PM, but they kept on dancing anyway! Great crowd 🙂
Again, I was honored to be the one and only bilingual San Diego wedding DJ that Judith & Hector trusted with their big day. Thank you!
