After twenty-five years, George & Rachel renewed their vows on Saturday, June 7, 2014. With an intimate crowd of around 40, no dance lighting (due to someone in the wedding party having vertigo), and no alcohol, I knew it would be tricky to get this group out of the dance floor. But before we get to that…every trip I make to a Wooden Nickel Ranch wedding in Menifee is always full of eye-candy! (With George & Rachel’s divine candy buffet combining American + Mexican sweets, I was on overload.)
THE MARIACHIS NO SHOWED!
Unfortunately, Los Mariachis de America that Rachel had hired to play the ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner no-showed! My assistant Melissa & I arrived 5 hours before our start time & were rehearsing grand entrances & doing some training exercises. We left as the ceremony started & returned again 30 minutes before our start time…..to hear silence. We were horrified “Oh no, the mariachis never showed up!” We had music going within a few minutes and got the party back on track…pero que lastima 🙁
COUNTRY MUSIC + SPANISH MUSIC @ THIS WOODEN NICKEL RANCH WEDDING
This was a particularly interesting event for me as it combined my two completely unrelated niches–country music/line dancing AND Spanish music/bilingual events. I’ve never had the opportunity to shake “mi cucu” to Sonora Dinamita, greet the guests in Spanish, then teach them the “Good Time” line dance in the same night! Melissa + I put on a great show though and were able put smiles back on their forlorn faces (Thanks a lot Los Mariachis de America!)
THE VIDEO
Check the video here of how we got this tiny, sober crowd to dance in almost daylight-level brightness to the most eclectic music you’ve ever seen at one party! I still can’t believe we pulled it off…
