Of all the San Diego wedding DJs rockin’ La Jolla, Emily and Dalton chose moi to DJ and MC their Calumet Park & Cuvier Club wedding on Thursday, April 12, 2018.
THE LOVE STORY
Emily & Dalton met in December 2010 through the Daniel Boone High School wrestling team. They first spoke in the van on the way to & from a wrestling tournament…in which Emily ‘conveniently’ fell asleep ON Dalton. The next weekend, Emily recorded a video of him breaking his collarbone at a wrestling tournament and texted him to see if he was ok. They never had a ‘real’ first date, but they’ve been talking ever since! And what are those conversations comprised of? Largely movie and TV quotes. No one ever understands their coded conversations. They plan to tell each other “Harry, I took care of it,” at least twice a day while on their honeymoon this summer to New Zealand & Tahiti.
On July 27, 2015, Emily & Dalton were in North Carolina on a Keller family vacation. Emily had a feeling he was going to propose that night so she was pretty much having a panic attack all day and even took her anti-anxiety medication to combat her nerves!!! And, what do you know, Dalton asked Emily to go for a walk on the beach before dinner. Hmmm??? As they walked through the sand with the waves lapping nearby, Dalton got down on one knee and said her full name…that’s all it took for the water works to start! After he popped the question, she threw her sandals down in the sand and cheered “Oh my god” and kissed him!
THE CALUMET PARK WEDDING CEREMONY
For the prelude, Emily wanted piano covers by the Piano Guys & Pianissimo Brothers. She walked down the aisle with her dog to an instrumental version of Jason Mraz’ “I’m Yours.” After the seaside La Jolla ceremony, the new Mr & Mrs walked back down the aisle to Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”
THE CUVIER CLUB WEDDING RECEPTION
We welcomed the newlyweds to the reception to “Crazy in Love” by Beyonce. After dinner & toasts, we played the Shoe Game then Dalton danced with his mom to Rod Stewart’s “Have I Told You Lately?” The song choice for their First Dance was John Mayer’s “XO.”
THE PLAYLIST
For dancing, Emily & Dalton requested lots of Top 40, 80s Pop/Rock/New Wave, and Electronic Dance Music, some 90s Pop/Rock/Rap and danceable Rap, and one or two 60s/70s Old School, Oldies, and slow dances. Country, “Harlem Shake,” and “Gangnam Style” were on the do not play list.
