Last year at the San Diego Wedding Event, I met Taylor. She told me she loved country music! And I said, “Me too!” A few weeks later, she booked me to be her DJ for her Red Barn Ranch wedding in Pauma Valley. Between then and January 11, 2014, I got to know Taylor & Travis well–what a great couple!
THE RED BARN RANCH WEDDING CREW
Taylor had assembled a top-notch team for her wedding that included Paige from Forever Young Photography and Day-Of Coordinator Julie from Simply Regal by Julie. And the Red Barn Ranch could NOT have been more beautiful–both in the structure and fixtures but in the surrounding scenery.
THE CEREMONY
The ceremony was romantic and fun. I looked like one of the bridesmaids in my perfectly coordinated dress too! Despite Travis’ “faux pas” during the ceremony (check it out in the video below), we turned it into a fun moment and pressed on. The processional was “Canon in D,” and the bride entered to “Storybook Love” by Mark Knopfler from The Princess Bride. After the ceremony, we exited to “Why Wait” by Rascal Flatts.
THE RED BARN RANCH WEDDING RECEPTION
After pictures + cocktails, we kicked off this Red Barn Ranch wedding reception with a fun Grand Entrance, giving each pair a little shout-out and their own soundbite. The toasts followed immediately after. Towards the end of dinner, we squeezed in a fun round of the “shoe game.” Whose nickname is “Sugar Butt”? Find out in the video below!
I also thought Travis & Taylor’s candy bar was clever. There was a jar of Hershey’s Kisses labeled “First came the kiss.” Then there was a jar of rock candy labeled “Then came the rock.” At the end was a jar of York Peppermint Patties labeled “Now they’re Mr. + Mrs. York.” SOOOOOOOO cute!
The First Dance song was “Then,” by Brad Paisley. Taylor & her dad Roland then danced to “My Little Girl,” by Tim McGraw. Then Travis, a self-proclaimed “mama’s boy,” danced with his mom to “My Wish,” by Rascal Flatts. After cutting the gorgeous (and delicious) cake, it was time to boogie!
DANCING
Despite only having an hour and a half to dance, I was able to squeeze in some line dancing & country for Taylor, special dedications from Travis and Taylor, and a little surprise during the Garter tradition. I rigged a hidden box under the “garter removal chair” then draped a cloth over it. What did Travis and I hide in the box, to Taylor’s surprise? See it in the video here!
Dance music consisted of 35% New Country, 25% Top 40, 25% Hip Hop/R+B, 15% Rap, and some Jackson 5. The garter was removed to “Let’s Get It on” by Marvin Gaye then tossed to “Milkshake” by Kellis. The bouquet was tossed to “Lady Marmalade” by Christina Aguilera. The last dance was “Smile” by Uncle Kracker, and the send-off song was, “Ain’t Going Down ‘Til the Sun Comes Up,” by Garth Brooks. It was so breezy that we had to do a re-do and re-strategize our bubble output! The pictures turned out fabulous though.
