Of all the San Diego wedding DJs out there, Dana and Jake chose me to DJ and MC their intercultural backyard Jewish wedding in Encinitas on Saturday, May 20, 2017.
THE CEREMONY
I played country love songs as the guests were being seated for this backyard Jewish wedding. The wedding party entered to Little Big Town’s “Happy People.” Dana made her entrance to Billy Joel’s “She’s Got a Way” (what a great bridal entrance song!) After the beautiful ceremony which included the cantor singing Jewish blessings, the newlyweds exited to Zac Brown Band’s “Lovin You Easy.”
THE BACKYARD JEWISH WEDDING RECEPTION
After the toasts, Dana & Jake did their First Dance to Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect.” Then we celebrated Grandpa Norm’s 91st birthday (the same day as the wedding) by having his wife perform Anne Murray’s “Could I Have This Dance?” live on the dance floor. Jake & Dana both danced with their parents to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man.” Then, finally, the moment Dana, who is not Jewish, had been dreading ALL day–the Horah. During the Horah, the bride and groom get hoisted into the air by their guests while seated in chairs for several minutes (see it in the video below).
THE PLAYLIST
For dinner, the bride and groom requested my Soft Country/Classic and Guitar Rock playlist. I didn’t play for the Cocktail Hour since it was in the front yard (they used a portable radio and iPod). For dancing, Dana & Jake’s “must plays” consisted of: “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran, “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon, “What You Know” by Two Door Cinema Club, and “All of the Lights” by Kanye West.
THE PHOTO BOOTH
Dana & Jake’s guests also enjoyed my photo booth & props during the reception. See the full San Diego photo booth gallery.
Again, I was honored to be the one and only San Diego wedding DJ Dana & Jake trusted with their big day. Thank you! See more at #jakeanddana2017.
