Of all the San Diego wedding DJs around, Suchada and Scott chose me to DJ and MC their Disney-inspired Martin Johnson House wedding on Sunday, May 27, 2018. Now before I get into the juicy details…let me tell you my very favorite “nugget” about S&S’s wedding–it was planned by the groom! Yep. Not because the bride was too busy or hospitalized or traveling in outer space, nope–just cuz!
THE LOVE STORY
Scott & Suchada met in August of 2015, when Su put up a profile on a Disney dating Facebook group. Scott saw her profile and thought she had a beautiful smile. He rolled the dice and decided to send her a message. They began chatting and flirting by showing off our respective Disney convention badges. They finally decided to meet at the upcoming Disney expo.
Around their 2 year anniversary, on Snow White’s wishing well at Disneyland, where Scott & Su had once taken a photo together early in their dating, they decided to return for another pic. As the bystander started to take several pictures, Scott took the ring out of his pocket and asked Su a very important question!!!
Together they enjoy, obviously, going to Disneyland & collecting Disney merch. So far they have visited 3 Disney resorts: Anaheim, Orlando, and Paris. Their goal is to visit all of the Disney parks worldwide. For their honeymoon, they plan to visit the Disney park in Tokyo.
THE CEREMONY
With La Jolla shores in the background, on top of a breezy seaside cliff on a beautiful sunny afternoon, Scott & Su said “I do” while a Disney wizard dressed in purple robes performed their ceremony. The wedding party walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of “Wish Upon a Star.” Su entered to “I See the Light” from the “Tangled” soundtrack. After the purple wizard pronounced them husband & wife, Scott & Su walked back down the aisle to “Ever After” by Carrie Underwood.
THE MARTIN JOHNSON HOUSE WEDDING RECEPTION
Scott opted out of a traditional Grand Entrance to kick off this Martin Johnson House wedding reception. Instead we started the reception with toasts, in which Scott personally introduced the wedding party. After toasts, Su & Scott shared their First Dance to the 1991 Angela Lansbury version of “A Tale as Old as Time” from “Beauty & the Beast.”
After dinner, Scott danced with his mom to “I Hope You Dance” – LeeAnn Womack. To introduce their dance, I said, “About his mom, Scott says: ‘My mother has tremendous strength that is complimented with compassion. Throughout my childhood, she instilled values of education, kindness, and strength in me. She always placed her children before herself. Her dedication gave me a foundation to grow into the man I am today…She gave me the keys to unlock the world, and the compass to find my amazing bride. And now let’s welcome Scott & his mother, Shelley, to the dance floor to share a special dance.” He then presented her with a rose before taking her out to the dance floor.
We took a group photo on the dance floor then kicked off open dancing! A little while later, Scott & Su cut their cake to “How Sweet It Is,” by James Taylor. Scott opted for the single guys to Limbo for the right to Su’s garter. For the right to Su’s bouquet, the single ladies had to win a down & dirty round of musical chairs. For their last dance, Scott requested “Friends in Low Places” – Garth Brooks.
THE PLAYLIST
For the cocktail hour/dinner playlist at this Martin Johnson House wedding, the groom requested songs from my “Feel Good” Soft Variety playlist, Guitar-Infused Country/Classic Rock playlist, and Motown/R&B playlist.
For dancing, Suchada & Scott requested PG-13 songs early on then some R/X-rated as it got later. The “Do Not Play” list? Mr. Kanye West. They wanted a lot of Top 40/Pop, 80s Pop/Rock/New Wave, and Electronic Dance Music, some Motown/Funk/Disco, 90s Pop/Rock/Rap, 50s & 60s Rock, Classic Rock, Rat Pack, New Country, R&B, and slow dances. Their “Must Plays” included: “How Deep is your Love” – Calvin Harris, “Shut up and Dance” – Walk the Moon, “Shout!” – Otis Day and the Knights, “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” – Aerosmith, “I Want you Back – Jackson 5, “The Middle” – Zedd, Maren Morris, Grey, “Paris” – The Chainsmokers, “You Can’t Stop the Rock” – Apollo 440.
Again, I was honored to be the one and only San Diego wedding DJ at Suchada and Scott’s Disney-inspired Martin Johnson House wedding. Thank you! See more at #SteahlYourHeart.
