Of all the San Diego wedding DJs in the county, Jessica & Brian chose me to DJ and MC their Flinn Springs County Park wedding on Saturday, June 24, 2017.
THE LOVE STORY
Jessica and Brian met in fifth grade. Separate middle schools kept them apart, but they were reunited in high school. A friendship developed during those years and even a bit of a crush. They wrapped up high school as each other’s prom dates but went in separate directions afterwards. Over the years, they drifted in and out of each other’s lives. Finally the timing was right, and this couple made it official!
On September 25, 2016, Brian & Jessica were camping in Yosemite. It was on the last day of their trip, on the way out of the park when Brian got down on one knee next to the Merced River and surprised Jessica with a ring!
Together, they enjoy hiking, camping, playing with their Great Dane, Sequoia, movie nights, and enjoying the local craft beer scene.
THE CEREMONY
Jessica & Brian’s ceremony took place at the lower area under the oak trees. The prelude music was by the Vitamin String Quartet. The processional song was an instrumental cover of “Take Me to Church” by Hozier. The bride entered to a guitar cover of “Here Comes the Sun.” After the officiant (the bride’s brother) said they could seal their vows with a kiss, text, or Facetime, I played the Vitamin String Quartet’s cover of Jason Mraz’ “I’m Yours.”
THE FLINN SPRINGS COUNTY PARK WEDDING RECEPTION
The couple was officially welcomed to “Shipping Up to Boston” (instrumental version) by the Dropkick Murphys. After sliders from their food truck, toasts, and parents dances, we took a group photo on the dance floor and a “Longest Married Couple” dance to kick off dancing.
THE PLAYLIST
For the cocktail hour/dinner playlist at this Flinn Springs County Park wedding, the bride and groom requested: folk/indie rock (Lumineers, Strumbellas, The Head & the Heart), 80s & 90s rock (INXS, Depeche Mode, New Order, Pearl Jam), “modern alternative” (Modest Mouse, Cold War Kids, Vance Joy, Milky Chance), and Oldies (Van Morrison, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac).
For dancing, Brian & Jessica’s “must play list” consisted of:
1. Let’s Dance – David Bowie
2. Just Can’t Get Enough – Depeche Mode
3. Should I Stay or Should I Go – The Clash
4. Say Hey I love You – Michael Franti
5. Ho Hey – Lumineers
6. Wagon Wheel – Old Crow Medicine Show
7. Lovin in My Baby’s Eyes – Taj Mahal (for Jessica’s dad)
8. Wish I Knew You – The Revivalists
9. Hey, Hey, Hey – Michael Franti
10. Brown-Eyed Girl – Van Morrison
11. I Gotta Feeling – Black Eyed Peas
12. Can’t Hold Us – Macklemore
Again, I was honored to be the one and only San Diego wedding DJ Brian and Jessica trusted with their big day. Thank you! See more at #HappilyEverHeller2017.
