I met Vicky & Charisse in 2013 at a bridal show. We knew we’d be a great match right off the bat and were excited to put their same-sex Marina Village Bay View Room wedding together. It’s a good thing they booked when they did because I found out the following week that my cousin was getting married on the same date!
GLAM, GLAM, & MORE GLAM
Glam, elegance, beauty…just a few words to describe not just Vicky & Charisse’s wedding but their relationship. The Bay View Room at Marina Village had never looked better in my opinion–the draping and added chandelier were crucial in transforming the room. Tables were decorated with little cakes rather than flowers. But, surprisingly, there were more people in the wedding party than there were cakes–phew! Nineteen introductions–yes, 19–were made during the Grand Entrance.
90S R&B A MUST @ THIS SAME-SEX MARINA VILLAGE BAY VIEW ROOM WEDDING
So, this wedding was about three things: glam elegance, the brides, and 90’s R&B! Vicky entered the ceremony to NSYNC’s “Sailing.” The wedding party danced down the aisle to “Love on Top” by Beyonce. And Charisse entered to Adele’s “Make Me Feel Your Love.” After a wonderfully customized ceremony, the brides exited to Drake’s “Hold on we’re Going Home.”
DANCING
After cocktails, the laundry list of introductions, dinner, toasts, and the First Dance to Boyz II Men’s version of “Amazed,” we took a group photo on the dance floor and, as Vicky liked to say throughout the planning process, I dropped the beat. As last minute issues made the dance floor about 100 ft long and 15 ft wide for 150 people (was supposed to be about 15′ x 15′), the first hour of open dancing was spent trying to carefully redirect the spread-out dancers to one concentrated area where the DJ lights were shining. Through the use of dimming & lighting (and….the “Cha Cha Slide“), I was able to get the party back on track!
EVER HEARD OF MIZ LIBERTY?
Vicky had prepared a dance routine with the male wedding attendants for Charisse as she removed her garter to Babyface’s “The Cool in You” (see the video here). Charisse tossed her bouquet to the edgy “Move B*tch” by Ludicris. After a fast-paced Money Dance for Charisse’s Filipino family tradition, the dance floor stayed rocking until 11:00 pm. Towards the end, a friend of Vicky’s told me she was a talented, semi-professional rapper by the name of Miz Liberty. She asked if I had any instrumental rap tracks…..hmmmmm. I did actually. When I originally downloaded the karaoke version of “Gangsta Nation” so many years ago, I didn’t know when or how I might use it…but it certainly came in handy at Vicky & Charisse’s wedding. See Miz Liberty spittin’ in the video linked above.
