Of all five-ish female San Diego wedding DJs in the 619, Kailah and Jessy chose me to DJ, MC, and provide a photo booth for their Twin Oaks House & Garden Estate wedding on Saturday, September 23, 2017, in San Marcos, CA. Kailah & Jessy are from Las Vegas, so this was a destination wedding for them.
THE LOVE STORY
Jessy accidentally said “I love you” for the first time when she was saying goodbye to Kailah from the window of her car in the driveway…Jessy, a police officer, got really red and embarrassed and drove away before Kailah could say anything back.
On July 23, 2016, Jessy surprised…I mean REALLY SURPISED, Kailah with a cabana on Mission Bay. There were pictures of the two of them, champagne, and flowers everywhere. When Kailah looked up, Jessy was down on one knee with a very important question for Kailah, who was crying like a baby!
THE SAME-SEX WEDDING CEREMONY
After some “welcome” jams by the Vitamin String Quartet, Jessy, the wedding party, and the officiant walked down the aisle to “All You Need Is Love” by the Stringspace Quartet. Kailah made her big entrance with her mom to “A River Flows In You” by Yiruma. After being pronounced wife & wife, the newlyweds exited to “All I Want Is You” by Barry Louis Polisar from the Juno soundtrack. This Twin Oaks House & Garden Estate wedding was truly gorgeous as well with the sound of a small waterfall trickling during the ceremony.
THE TWIN OAKS HOUSE & GARDEN ESTATE WEDDING RECEPTION
Kailah & Jessy made their big debut to “Tik Tok” by Kesha. After their First Dance to “Crazy Girl” by the Eli Young Band and the salad course, there were toasts from Jessy’s Bridesmaid Alex, Kailah’s Maid of Honor Anna Epps, Kailah’s mother Alisa Allard, Jessy’s Father John, and a few words from Jessy herself.
Unfortunately, we were unable to locate a copy of the original song Kailah & her mom requested for their special dance: “Whirl & Swirl & Twirl” by Valdy. We ended up using Martina McBride’s “In My Daughter’s Eyes,” which they described as the song that personified their mother/daughter journey. Going for the complete opposite vibe, Jessy & her dad danced to “Kiss The Girl” from The Little Mermaid. Why? Because Jessy used to watch The Little Mermaid on repeat throughout her entire childhood. Her dad always said that one day he would dance with her at her wedding to that song. Twenty-eight years later…he did!
Other than a hoppin’ dance floor from open to close, the photo booth was popular all night as well as the hot dog cart, donut station (Jessy had a lot of cop friends in the crowd), and candy buffet.
THE PLAYLIST
For the cocktail hour/dinner playlist at this Twin Oaks House & Garden Estate wedding, the brides requested songs from
my Soft Country/Classic & Guitar Rock playlist, Luke Bryan, Chris Young, and the Beatles. Jessy’s all-time fave is Adele…so for dinner music, we did Adele + my Feel Good, Soft Variety playlist.
For dancing, the brides said “thumbs up” to R & X-rated music, and they had these songs on their must-play list: “Despacito – NOT JUSTIN BEIBER VERSION” Luis Fonsi, “Danza Kuduro” Don Omar, “7/11” Beyonce, “Turn Down For What” Lil Jon, “We Found Love” Rihanna, “Push It” Salt N Pepa, “Love Shack” B52s, “Wobble” VIC, “Cha Cha Slide” by DJ Casper, “Twist & Shout” Beatles, “Bad Boys” Inner Circle, “Wild Thoughts” Rihanna, and “Hey Ya” Outkast. The do-not-play play consisted of: Oldies, Big Band/Rat Pack, New Country, Slow Dances, Macarena, Limbo, Harlem Shake, Chicken Dance, Electric Slide.
Again, I was honored to be the one and only female San Diego wedding DJ Kailah and Jessy trusted with their big day. Thank you! See more at #AllDatAsh.
